summer 2022

back in the summer of 2022, i had a good combination of free time, energy, and acquired knowledge of procreate, and so i wound up making some really cool pieces. i still like pretty much all of these quite a bit. they’re really fun and they have a distinct style that i’m proud of. these stand as examples of what i can do when i try my hardest, and i really, really like them because of that.

something of a precursor to the rest of these. made in a sudden burst of energy, i'm pretty sure this is also the first time i ever did anything lineless.

all i knew when i started making this drawing was the quote i was going to associate with it and that it was going to have lucie in it. i did not plan for it to have the background it does, and i actually did a whole layer of lineart that i didn't wind up keeping. i just kept trying to discover how i could make it look better, and it really worked out. i'm still very, very happy with this piece.

this one's silly. drawing on post-it notes was a nice low stakes to get my hands moving, and i drew my fursona a lot, so i imagined her breaking out of that containment here. the unfurled paper clip is a thing i had on my desk i thought would look interesting, and the precise v5 is my favorite pen, although i've moved to the precise v5rt recently. i feel like there's something really magic happening in this piece where her ear goes over the pen. that part really sells the whole effect.

this one was based on a sketch book drawing i really liked. i drew all the lines on those tiles individually. just a lot of fun.

almost everyone i've shown this piece to in person has attempted to imitate the way her arms are. i honestly wasn't thinking all that much about it when i made it. i suppose i was considering the composition more than the meaning or practicality of the pose. i also really like the overall color scheme. rare shiny maxc.

well, i had drawn the other dogs, and now it was dot's turn. this piece is a somewhat abstracted adaptation of a drawing i did while i was feeling utterly despondant. dropping a plate makes me feel like a failure. this tries to capture that feeling.

this is a piece about being at a party and refusing to have allow yourself to have fun. even though it's a piece about dot, it has maxc in it twice.

this shouldn't count, but let's pretend it does. i started this piece near the tail end of this burst of inspiration, and only finally got the energy to finish it slightly less than a year later. i mostly made this piece because i saw a piece of art in a museum that was circlular, and i thought that was really cool. so, i tried to experiment with the kind of composition a circlular canvas calls for.
